Ann Deter was born in the Sean Ross Abbey Mother and Baby home in the 50s.
An American woman born in a Roscrea Mother and Baby home has tracked down her family in the Midlands, with the help of the FBI.
Ann Detar discovered she was adopted from the Sean Ross Abbey Mother and Baby home in the 1950's when she was just 3 and a half years old.
Having previously visited Ireland in 1977, she was finally able to contact her half brothers in Laois in 1994.
One of those half brothers is Pat Fahey from Portlaoise, he says, he was shocked but he wasn't surprised:
"Only for my sister, my younger brother and I could have died from cancer."
That's according to Pat Fahey from Portlaoise who discovered he had Lynch Syndrome, which increases the likelihood of developing cancer.
His sister was a nurse, and made him aware of the genetic condition and urged him and his brother to get tested.
After recovering from an aggeresive cancer diagnosis, Pat set up a group called Lynch Syndrome Ireland to offer support and advice, to others;
Mr Fahey says meeting his sister turned out to be lifesaving intervention:
