Last year, the WRC ruled against her in a claim of unfair dismissal but she believes she was denied a fair hearing.
A judge has described Ammi Burke’s conduct in her courtroom as “appalling,” and said she’s “horrified” a qualified solicitor would behave in such a way.
She made the comments just before throwing Amid’s’ case out after she repeatedly refused to sit down and be quiet while others were making legal submissions.
This case was supposed to be a review into a decision of the Workplace Relations Commission that went against Amid’s Burke last year.
After being fired from Arthur Cox in 2019, she brought a case of unfair dismissal against her former employer, but claimed she didn’t get a fair hearing at the WRC.
However, after spending over five hours outlining her reasoning, Amid’s refused to let the barrister for the WRC make her submissions without interruption.
After Ms Justice Marguerite Bolger handed out some printouts of a case referred to by the opposing legal teams, Amid’s accused her of litigating on behalf of Arthur Cox and the WRC.
After refusing repeated requests to sit down and be quiet, the judge listened to applications to have Amid’s’ case thrown out, and in the end, that’s what happened.
As she left, Amid’s’ mother, Martina Burke, could be heard telling Ms Justice Bolger that God would judge her.
A decision on who will pay the legal bill will be made at a later date.
