It comes from the latest commencement figures from the Department of Housing.

Latest figures from the Department of Housing recorded the biggest increase in Westmeath County Council.
305 new homes were started last month, up from only 10 in November, and 8 for December in 2023.
For the local authority in Laois, the result was more mixed with only 92 houses started last month, that's up from 8 in November but down from 106 in December the year previous.
Construction only began on 14 projects in Offaly, up from 6 the previous month and 11 in 2023.
Overall, a combined 3,566 housing commencements were recorded in the Midlands last year, surpassing the figure of 1,800 started in 2023.
