The Taoiseach has welcomed the decision.
The Taoiseach is welcoming a decision by An Bord Pleanála to approve a temporary pumping solution at Lough Funshinagh.
The flood relief scheme, which was applied for by Roscommon County Council, will involve taking water from the lake and discharging it to the nearby Cross River in Carrick.
The pipes will be on the surface and will be monitored to ensure no issues arise downstream.
Previous incidents of local flooding have occured with water spreading from the lake and forcing some residents living nearby to evacuate their homes.
