The plans were originally refused by the local authority.
A decision to refuse planning permission for a shop in the midlands has been overturned by An Bord Pleanála.
A submission was lodged to operate a shop at the Mr. Price Distrubition Centre in Cornamaddy, Athlone, but those plans were refused by Westmeath County Council.
The decision to refuse planning permission for the store was made because the local authority says it would compromise the regeneration of the defined Retail Core area of Athlone.
However, An Bord Pleanála has overturned that ruling, with an inspector saying there's an adequate population catchment within a 10 minute drive of the site to ensure the proposed shop won't impact the turnover of existing retail units in the town centre.
It also says the development is more likely to introduce competition into the area as opposed to vacancy.
The planning inspector recommended the refusal from Westmeath County Council be overturned, subject to 8 conditions - a decision which was ultimately upheld by An Bord Pleanála.
