The new rooms are due to be ready by September.
Two new special education classrooms have been approved for a primary school in Westmeath.
Minister for Education Norma Foley confirmed the news for St Mary's National School in Rathowen.
Two modular classrooms are due to be constructed and designated for special education teaching, and are due to be ready for use by September.
Until the classrooms are ready, the community centre will be used for special education teaching.
Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy says "This investment means children with special educational needs will have purpose-built classrooms from September, which is very welcome. It will make a dramatic difference to many school children at St Mary's."
