Asylum Seekers Moved From Westmeath Tented Accommodation

Over 100 refugees had been living at the facility, the conditions of which had been described as 'degrading and intolerable.'

Over 100 asylum seekers have been moved from tented accommodation in Westmeath.

The poor conditions of the tents in Athlone have been highlighted in recent weeks, with heat retention a particular concern.

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth have confirmed the refugees have been relocated to more suitable International Protection Accommodation.

The residents were moved in back in September, and have since labelled the conditions of the tents as 'degrading and intolerable.'
