It will mainly aid Tullamore and Portiuncula hospitals.

A new injury unit is set to open in Westmeath next year.

The facility will be located at Clonbrusk Primary Care Centre in Athlone and will predominantly aid Portiuncula and Tullamore hospitals.

The unit will be equipped to treat minor injuries, such as broken bones in the legs and arms, minor scalds and burns and wounds and bites.
