A Midlands soccer player is celebrating a milestone by completing the initial phase of her Garda training.
Athlone Town defender Kayleigh Shine has finished the initial phase of her training at the Garda College in Templemore.
The 23 year old, who signed a new contract with the club for the 2026 season, joined An Garda Síochána as part of Intake 254, Class D after being inspired to join the Gardai by her cousin.
Shine says she is looking forward to the second stage of her training, as she prepares to gain hands-on experience, before she also kicks off the new season with Town in a few weeks.
