Biomass Shipped Over 7,000km To Fuel Midlands Power Station

The woodchips come all the way from South America.

A midlands power station is using biomass fuel that's been shipped over 7,000km.

Bord Na Mona are currently burning Brazilian woodchips to run its Edenderry plant. 

The fuel is being shipped from the port of Santana in South America, to Limerick, and is then carried by truck to Offaly.

Agribusiness Editor with the Farmer's Journal, Lorcan Roche Kelly, says if the energy facility is to have a long term future, it may need to source biomass closer to home:
