By winter over 2,500 homes in the area will be able to access high-speed fibre broadband.
National Broadband Ireland are near the completion of a rollout of broadband in a Laois town.
By winter, over 2,500 properties in Mountrath area will be able to connect to high-speed fibre broadband.
The area also includes the rural areas and townlands surrounding Mountrath, Abbeyleix and Borris-in-Ossory.
13,000 premises in County Laois are included in the State’s Intervention Area, which will see NBI deliver minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second to homes, businesses, farms, and schools.
Laois will receive €49M of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.
Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive Officer, National Broadband Ireland, said:
“We are delighted to announce that Laois premises in the Mountrath area will be able to order high-speed broadband services through the National Broadband Ireland network by the end of this year. This will enable users to experience the life-changing benefits that high-speed broadband provides.”
National Broadband Ireland contractors have been on the ground across the country and over 177,412 premises nationwide can order or pre-order broadband on the NBI network so far.
NBI is encouraging people to check their eligibility and register for updates on the NBI website.
