Over 100 Shannon-side business owners have signed a petition urging the Government to reject the proposed yearly fees for inland waterway users.
Waterways Ireland suggested charging boats utilising the Shannon navigation a flat registration fee of €200 in addition to €200 for permits on the Royal and Grand Canals.
The Shannon Lakes and Rivers Group have expressed worry upon discovering that Waterways Ireland had not commissioned an impartial economic analysis of the moves through the Freedom of Information process.
