It comes after a poor senate election for female candidates.

A former midlands TD says there is pushback from some in her party towards successful female candidates. 

It comes after a poor Seanad election for female candidates - with less than 30 per cent of the seats filled by women.

It's led to calls for the next Taoiseach to use his 11 nominees to the senate to promote female candidates.
