Currently, 312,400 people are directly employed by companies supported by the IDA.
The Industrial Development Authority have dismissed the need for employment in County Laois.
That's the message from Cllr Aishling Moran who says the county is not prioritised when it comes to IDA supported jobs.
The agency whose main aim is to attract and retain inward foreign direct investment into Ireland has not made much progress establishing businesses, investment and connections in the O'Moore county.
Currently 312,400 people work directly in companies supported by the IDA, and out of those nearly 170,000 of these jobs are located outside of Dublin in regional towns and cities.
The Midlands however is not strongly represented in those figures, with Laois accounting for the smallest number of 156 residents positioned in such employment out of over 300,000 IDA jobs available.
Councillor Moran says there is no reason for the county to account for such low figures as Portlaoise is an ideal location for investment as it continues to grow.
The Laois independent representative is calling on the IDA to engage with Laois County council to help increase the county's share of IDA jobs.
She says the agency should visit the chambers to discuss the matter and explain why Laois has not been prioritised so far.
Mrs. Moran thinks by having a direct and informative conversation the council and the IDA can do better for county Laois going forward.
