Athlone Drug Awareness Group is calling for HHC to be included under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Concerns are being raised about the presence of cannabinoids in jellies being sold in Westmeath.
HHC, which is a synthetically produced cannabinoid, is not subject to any legal restrictions in Ireland and is available in vapes and in edible form.
The HSE has also expressed unease over the emerging drug and the limited information on its impact on health.
