At least three schools got threatening messages and will not open today.
A number of schools in Carlow today are closed after they received threats..
Just after 8am this morning schools began contacting parents to say their children's schools would not be opening due to threatening messages they received.
At least three schools have decided to close, but the number of schools contacted with the sinister correspondence could be higher, with some schools believed to have opened as normal despite the threats.
One school sent the threatening message said it was remaining closed in the interest of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the school community, while another told parents it was working closely with the appropriate authorities.
Gardaí have been contacted and are understood to be on site at some of the schools involved.
