Schools across Carlow have received threatening messages.
Gardaí are continuing to assess a threatening email sent to 20 primary schools in Carlow this morning.
For the safety of their students and staff, many schools decided to close after they received an email with threats of gun violence.
It's believed to have been sent through another country, and the credibility of the message is still being investigated.
Gardaí say high-visibility patrols will be in place around all 42 primary schools in County Carlow over the coming days.
