The Sinn Féin MEP for Midlands North West is working on an EU law to protect cash.
There should be no exceptions to a person's choice to pay electronically or with cash.
That's the claim from Midlands North West Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus, who is one of six working on legislation enforcing the right to cash, which is expected to be voted on in European Parliament by the end of April.
If passed, it would then supercede Irish law.
A recent survey from the Central Bank found people in Offaly were the most likely in the country to pay with cash.
