A formal apology has been issued by the Catholic Church after a priest asked for the Irish flag to be removed from the coffin of a Defence Forces veteran.
It happened at the funeral of John Phelan at St Canice's Church in Kilkenny last week.
It's despite a rule in recent years that the tricolour is allowed to be draped over coffins at funerals.
In the apology, they explained the priest was only told at the door about the flag.
Mullingar's Noel O Callaghan, a retired Regmental Sergeant Major of the Defence Forces says it wasn't an oversight on the Force's part:
