But a government minister says this case has exposed flaws in the HSE's recruitment process.

Reform of how hospital staff are recruited is needed, according to a junior minister.

The post of paediatric diabetes nurse at Mullingar Regional Hospital has been filled after lying vacant for almost two years.

The chosen candidate cannot start until 2022, but a temporary clinical nurse specialist has been appointed and the service will resume later this month.
