The Fair Deal scheme is being blamed for the closure of Tearmainn Bhride and Stella Maris Nursing Homes.
Nursing Homes Ireland believes the closure of two midlands nursing homes should serve as a 'wake up call' for all working in the industry.
Tearmainn Bhride in Brideswell and Stella Maris Nursing Homes, both in the Athlone area, say costs have become too high to continue running.
CEO of NHI Tadhg Daly says the terms of the Fair Deal scheme are blocking homes from increasing their prices.
He says it's destressing for the residents having to leave their homes and believes the government needs to work with them to ensure sustainable high quality care is provided across the country:
