A credit will also be applied to affected rate-payers.
Commercial rates are being waived in Westmeath for three months.
The local authority is making the decision following a directive from government that all businesses forced to close should be exempt from the payment dating from March 27th.
A credit of 25% of the 2020 rates demand will also be applied to the account of each affected rate-payer.
Jimmy Dalton, Head of Finance at Westmeath County Council says it's a welcome development:
Rather than an expected baby boom following Covid-19, scientists fear the virus has actually put people off having children. https://t.co/Y2lnhcazKh
