Fianna Fail Councillor Tony McCormack says it'll be tough news for many.
An Offaly Councillor says the community of Tullamore is in shock after a number of covid-19 cases were confirmed at a hotel in the town.
The Bridge House has temporarily closed to facilitate testing on 100 staff in line with HSE guidence.
It's follows an email sent to GPs in Tullamore disclosing that 20 guests from a group of 40 who stayed there last week had contracted the virus.
Offaly Fianna Fáil councillor Tony McCormack says it's especially frightening for those in vulnerable categories:
Meanwhile, Tullamore Golf Club has moved to clarify that is not involved in the incident with the following statement:
"Tullamore Golf Club wishes to clarify that it had no contact or association with the golfing group that visited the Tullamore area recently.
It is widely known that the group played golf at two clubs close to Tullamore and socialised in Tullamore. Consequently, contact tracing procedures are being followed by the HSE as necessary.
Tullamore Golf Club has not been affected in any way by this and continues to operate under strict adherence to Covid 19 protocols."
