Concerns Over Air Pollution As 43,000 Vehicles Pass Through Laois Town Every Week

Locals are calling for fees to be suspended for HGVs on the motorway. 

Over 4,300 heavy goods vehicles are bypassing the toll on the M7/M8 each week. 

The Transport Infrastructure Ireland traffic data monitor shows 43,256 vehicles are driving through Abbeyleix every seven days.

Locals, who are becoming increasingly concerned about the high volume of traffic in the town, are calling for fees to be suspended for HGVs on the motorway. 

Local GP John Madden says they aren't against the truck drivers but they are worried about the impact diesel fumes could be having on their health:
