A number of residents have been transferred to City West in Dublin.

17 residents of a direct provision centre in Laois have been transferred to City West Hotel in Dublin to quarantine following a covid-19 outbreak.

Concerns are being raised by Fianna Fáil councillor John Joe Fennelly about the meals being given to those moved from the centre in Abbeyleix.

He says they're being offered a cold food diet consisting of salads.

Parish priest Father Paddy Byrne says it's another example of why the centres must be closed as soon as possible:

Meanwhile,

Solutions to ending Direct Provision over the next few years will be put before Cabinet Ministers this morning.

A white paper on phasing out the existing system of housing for asylum seekers is expected to be signed off on.

Minister Roderic O'Gorman has said the paper won't be about tinkering around the edges but ensuring real reform of the housing system.

The programme for government commits to abolishing direct provision in the lifetime of this Dáil.

It's expected the White Paper won't be published until later in the week.
