A construction firm says it can't deliver a new school in Co Westmeath for the original price agreed because of rising material costs.

Kilbeggan Secondary School is understood to be one of more than a dozen planned new schools hit by the same problem.

Structural steel prices are up by around 40% according to the main lobby group for the Irish construction industry.
