Coronavirus: 23,702 New Cases Confirmed Today

The number of people with covid-19 in hospital is now 1,338.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre has today been notified of 7,729 PCR-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In addition, on Monday 21 March, 15,973 people registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal. 

As of 8am today, 1,338 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 61 are in ICU.  

It comes as the Irish Nurses' and Midwives' Organisation is calling for the reintroduction of mask wearing in crowded and indoor settings, and the curtailment of all non-emergency elective care.

There are 1,338 people in hospital with Covid today, up 30 on yesterday, with 61 patients in ICU.

But Tánaiste Leo Varadkar says they’ve had no public health advice to make masks mandatory again or reintroduce restrictions:
