It could be a year before Portlaoise Leisure Centre re-opens, according to a local councillor.
Thomasina Connell - who also sits on the centre's board - says badly-needed repairs and refurbishments will be carried out in the meantime.
The facility closed its doors to the public two weeks ago, with an injection of €300,000 needed in order to meet ongoing running costs.
