Dáil Backs Ending Abortion Waiting Period

TDs backed the Sinn Féin bill by 86 votes to 70.

A proposal to abolish the three-day waiting period for abortion services has cleared its first major hurdle in the Dáil.

TDs backed the Sinn Féin bill by 86 votes to 70 with a free vote given to those serving in government.

Longford Westmeath TDs and Ministers Peter Burke, Robert Troy, and Kevin Boxer Moran all voted against the amendment.

The bill will now be examined by an Oireachtas committee before progressing to the next stage.
