Dates Change For Electric Picnic As Local Concern Grows

The organisers have applied to hold the festival later than previously scheduled.

The dates for this year's Electric Picnic have been changed.

Organisers Festival Republic have applied to Laois County Council for a licence to hold the event at Stradbally Hall between Friday 24th and Sunday 26th September.

Doubt still looms over whether the festival can go ahead this year, with some locals voicing concern about the danger to public health.

Up to 70,000 people anticipated to attend each day - while a maximum of 20,000 early entry ticket-holders will be allowed onsite on Thursday 23rd.

The organisers have given Midlands 103 and updated statement, which reads:

We wanted to update you all on how Electric Picnic plans to move forward this year. Given the great progress the HSE is making on the Vaccine Rollout so far, and the recently announced target of having at least 70% of the country fully vaccinated by the end of July, we are still confident that the festival can take place this year.

That being said, we feel we have a much better chance of that happening by moving the dates back a few weeks to September 24th-26th instead of the original dates of September 3rd-5th.

We are as desperate as everyone else to get our industry back up and running, and if moving the festival further back in September helps that dream become a reality then we feel it’s the right decision to make.

We also understand that this may not suit everyone, and if you cannot make it that weekend then you are entitled to a full refund.

Everyone in our industry, and the entire country for that matter, needs some sort of hope that the end of this pandemic is in sight. We truly wish that Electric Picnic will be the light at the end of the tunnel and we can welcome you all to Stradbally this year.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and we will keep you updated as much as we can.

This year's EP will also host a new area known as 'Fishtown'. It'll be located in the woodland area close to Hazelwood.

The Body and Soul area will now be called ‘Mind and Body’ and will remain in the same area as previous years.

The Mindfield area will also move to be adjacent to the new Mind and Body area.

The campsite, arena entrances and arena layouts have been reviewed and amended accordingly to accommodate the additional capacity.
The most prominent entertainment is to take place on a combination of outdoor stages and big top stages.

In addition to this, there will be numerous smaller tented structures, stages and areas, for accommodation of various forms of entertainment.

Some of these areas will host late night entertainment, which will run until about 4am each day.
