Calls have been made to mark Custume Barracks the Army Headquarters.
The design of the Defence Forces needs to be the priority ahead of designating a location for Army Head Quarters, says the Táinaiste.
Minister for Defence, Michael Martin was speaking in response to calls made in the Dáil by Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy on the suitability of Custume Barracks in Athlone for the position.
The Commission on Defence Forces report in 2022 recommended establishing a new HQ for the army, and the Tánaiste says there is a comprehensive agenda set out based on the results.
