A Laois Councillor has been raising concerns over a lack of assistance at stations in the county.
Staffing levels in train stations are being kept under review based on demand, according to Irish Rail.
It comes as Laois Independent Councillor, Tommy Mulligan, was supported in his motion to write to the rail operator on a lack of personnel at stations in the county to provide information or assistance.
He highlighted issues at stations in Portarlington, Portlaoise and Ballybrophy.
A spokesperson for Iarnrod Eireann says smaller stations may be more focused on self service with ticket machines and PA systems.
They are also highlighting the availability of customer service officers on-board trains.
