Victims of domestic abuse are being reminded help is available, in the run up to Go Purple Day.

The initiative was the brainchild of midlands garda Stacey Looby, who wanted to do more to help after attending a domestic violence call-out a couple of years ago. 

The Banagher native, who's now based in Athlone Garda Station, is encouraging people to 'go purple' and share photos and helpline numbers on social media this Friday to raise awareness:
