Judge Andrew Cody said GoSafe vans were "shooting fish in a barrell".
The Director of Public Prosecutions is challenging a decision not to prosecute drivers accused of speeding in the midlands.
Judge Andrew Cody recently dismissed 30 cases at Portlaoise District Court because he feels GoSafe vans are "shooting fish in a barrel" on the old Monasterevin to Portlaoise road.
Fines issued in the townland of Clogheen were €108,000 in 2022, as much as whole counties such as Kilkenny and Mayo.
The Irish Times reports how the DPP has secured leave to take a judicial review, describing the District Court's decision as "unreasonable and irrational".
It will argue the charges against the drivers had been proven and the judge did not have discretion to waive the penalty points.
