Drug dealers are becoming more ruthless and aren't afraid of being caught by Gardaí.
That's the view of Fianna Fáil's Local Election Candidate, Frankie Keena, who says the new Community Policing model, which is taking a Superintendent away from Athlone Garda Station, only adds to his disappointment at the problem.
He says Athlone is often seen at the top of the list at Joint Policing Committee meetings in relation to drug seizures and dealing.
The Chairman of the Athlone Drug Awareness Group, says due to a lack of Gardaí available, we don't see them walking the streets anymore:
