A Westmeath councillor hopes the money will speed up the process of refurbishing properties.
The midlands region will benefit to the tune of €1.3 million from a social housing initiative from central government.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O'Brien, announced the scheme, aimed at returning vacant local authority properties to public use.
€477,313 is being given to Laois, €403,247 to Offaly and €424,377 for Westmeath county council.
