€1.8m Overspend On Midlands Homeless Services Last Year

That's according to new figures from the Department of Housing.

Local authorities in the midlands spent over €1.8 million more than expected on homeless services last year.

New figures from the Department of Housing for 2023 show County Councils in the region spent €5.9 million on such services.

The provision of unscheduled emergency accommodation was responsible for the largest overspend, with that figure exceeding €3.6 million, €1.5 million more than expected.

That includes commercial hotels and B&Bs.

209 people were homeless in the midlands at the end of last year - that figure included 58 children.
