Today is St.Swithin's Day, where for centuries it was believed if rain falls today, it remains for 40 days.
Rain could be on the way for the next 40 days - if an old legend is to be believed.
Today is St.Swithin's Day - where for centuries it was believed 'if thou dost rain, for forty days it will remain.'
The belief comes from the 10th century, when the bones of the bishop, after whom the day is named, were removed from his resting place, and a violent storm followed.
However Westmeath historian Jason McEvitt says there's no record of there ever being forty days of rain after a wet St Swithin's Day.
He says the Irish have the answer in any case:
