The work is expected to be fully completed by the end of next year.
Works on a €114m Westmeath drainage project are now 80% complete.
The Athlone Main Drainage Project is on target for a completion date by the end of 2025.
Developments to be done next year include reinstatement of work areas, finishing civil works and the testing and commissioning of the project.
Uisce Éireann has so far completed an emergency storm overflow chamber and all tunnel shafts in Athlone have been finished.
