€2.7 million in funding for the midlands has been announced as part of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The funding comes as part of a national €27 million programme to combat dereliction in rural towns and villages.

Portarlington is the town with the highest allocation across the region with €500,000 allocated to develop the People's Park.
