€19 Million Granted To Midlands Health Services

It falls under the 2022 Capital Plan.

€19 million in funding is being allocated to Midlands Healthcare Services.

This falls under the 2022 Capital Plan for the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities in Ireland.

Laois has been allocated the largest amount in the region €9.3 million, with a 50 bed new build at St. Vincent's in Mountmellick being the primary beneficiary in the county.

Westmeath will receive €8 million, with the completion of the new MRI and Radiology Unit at Mullingar Hospital highlighted as a key project.

Offaly is set to be granted less than it's regional counterparts, receiving €940,000, with the key project being the addition of a dispensing robot for the pharmacy at Tullamore Hospital.
 

The Laois breakdown is as follows:

 

Laois	Bridge Street, Portlaoise	New Community Mental Health Centre, replacing Tríogue.	€100,000
	HIQA - St Vincent's Mountmellick	HIQA Compliance: Phase 1, 50 bed new build (Enabling works complete Feb 21) Awaiting Board Approval (Sept 21).	€4 million
	Mountrath	Extension to Healh Centre to provide additional accomodation (3 GP Practice in residence). Primary Care Centre (66) Option Appraisal to be carried out. May be sale and lease. Await stage 1.	€100,00
	Portlaoise	Adaptation of building on the St. Fintan's Campus to create Portlaoise Primary Care Centre. (National Ranking - No. 166)	€250,000
		New Community Residence for 4 clients in Summerhill.	€50,000
	Portlaoise MRH	Acute Mental Health Unit, anti ligature works. Phased delivery.	€500,000
		New Project- Isolation Ward: Provision of 9 No. isolation rooms, (refurbishment of existing rooms).	€38,000
		Reconfiguration of available space to provide additional clinical and administrative accomodation, (Administration Building and Chapel of Rest).	€100,000
		Reconfiguration of Maternity Ward.	€50,000
		Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU): Provision of two storey modular building, circa 800m2 to provide respiratory assessment unit for ED, to segregate COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. On Pandemic Plan - 08/10/2020.	€4 million
	St. Fintan's, Laois	New 20 bed High Support Community Residence (2 No. 10 Bed Units).	€100,000
		Refurbishment Works for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Team 3 in St. Fintan’s Hospital Portlaoise.	€50,000

Offaly's allocation of funding:

Offaly	Birchwood House, Tullamore	High Support Community Residence - 10 No. Beds.	€100,000
	Tullamore Health Centre	Refurbishment of existing Health Centre to provide accommodation for Dental, Audiology and administration. Under review possible Enhanced Community Care permanent solution.	€50,000
	Tullamore, Midland Regional Hospital.	The provision of a new build 16 bed single en-suite Palliative Care Unit with associated ancillary accommodation and Day Services, outpatient and Community Home Care Team accommodation (Design Costs only) Voluntary contribution in doubt.	€100,000
	Tullamore, MRH	Conversion of ward area to provide four new neutral pressure isolation rooms.	€160,000
		Provision of a dispensing robot for the Pharmacy.	€360,000
		Reconfiguration works to provide mid-term Acute Medical Assessment Unit, 2 No. isolation rooms in Emergency Department and reconfigure and extend Blood Transfusion and Histology Labs. (Refer Project Ref. 1391 & 1396).	€140,000

		Relocate Ambulance Station in Mullingar: Project will replace existing fragmented service and integrate fleet and operatives in one central location in Mullingar.	€1.13 million
	Mullingar MRH	Extension to Radiology Department to accommodate an MRI provided by others.	€5,2 million
		New Projects: Respiratory Assessment Unit (RAU), OPD space to accommodate a Respiratory Assessment Unit (Adult and Paediatric). On Pandemic Plan - 08/10/2020.	€1.5 million
	St. Vincent's Hospital, Athlone	New 9 bed Mental Health Residential Unit.	€100,000

Junior Finance Minister and Fianna Fáil TD for Laois-Offaly, Seán Fleming has been welcoming the news;

“Each project provides an excellent service for those in need of healthcare in our communities or in a hospital setting. It is important that we see continued support to maintain the buildings and the services they provide.”

His constituency colleague, Fine Gael's Charlie Flanagan also welcomed the news, with a particular mention for the long-awaited upgrades to St. Vincent's healthcare facility in Mountmellick;

"...I am pleased that €4 million has been made available towards the first phase of the long-awaited development of St Vincent's, Mountmellick. This development was announced over 7 years ago, by Minister Kathleen Lynch, and despite much foot-dragging since then, I am now confident that matters will proceed so that real progress can be made."

TD Barry Cowen says "I'm delighted that the Government has provided €10.2m to further upgrade public health care facilities across Laois-Offaly. Capital investment has a key role to play in enhancing service provision and ensuring the delivery of high quality and safe health and social care."
