€250,000 Aimed At Improving Walking And Cycling Facilities In Offaly

It's part of the government's active travel scheme.

Schoolchildren and older people are set to benefit from improved walking and cycling facilities in Offaly.

The Active Travel projects, worth 250,000 euro, are intended to make the roads of Edenderry and Portarlington safer and easier to access.

They include a new walkway along the Portarlington Cemetery Link, a 400m cycleway along Hare's Lane in Edenderry, and a cycle path linking housing estates to the Grand Canal Greenway.

Local Green Party councillor Mark Hackett is hoping it'll help get people active AND alleaviate traffic congestion:
