€40m Worth Of Irish Peat Exported In 2025

More than 370,000 tonnes of peat were exported to 21 countries.

There were almost €40m worth of peat exports last year despite there being no legal commercial peat extraction operation in the country.

The Irish Times is reporting over 370,000 tonnes of of peat were sold to 21 countries.

While exports to Israel totalled 23,000 tonnes, worth over €3m.

Last year an EPA report highlighted multiple sites in Offaly and Westmeath where suspected illegal extraction has been taking place.
