Minister for Education Norma Foley paid a visit to two primary schools in Laois for the official opening of their school buildings yesterday.
Deputy Foley attended the official opening of the new St. Francis Special School in the morning before heading to Gaelscoil Thromaire later in the day.
She was accompanied by Laois-Offaly Deputy Seán Fleming.
St. Francis Special School provides educational services for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, and is located in Portlaoise. It has also recently been approved by the by the Department for a new extension after a considerable demand for places arose.
Gaelscoil Thromaire was the first Gaelscoil in Laois to receive the status, and has now been upgraded to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility.
Students performed music for the Ministers at the opening, with Deputy Fleming calling them the 'heroes of the day.'
