Gardaí in the county conducted nearly 50 checkpoints over the weekend.
Eight people were arrested by Gardaí in Laois over the weekend for drink or drug driving.
49 checkpoints were carried out in towns around the county, as part of Operation Surround in the Christmas Road Safety Campaign.
The Laois Roads Policing Unit also arrested a drunk driver in Borris in Ossory last night.
Gardaí say the motorist was also disqualified from driving, and they've been charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court.
Gardaí are reminding the public to "Never ever drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
