Enoch Burke Ordered Back To Prison For Breaching Court Order

Mr Burke has spent over 700 days behind bars so far.

The High Court is ordering the arrest and imprisonment of Enoch Burke for breaching a court order to stay away from a Westmeath school.

The Irish Independent is reporting the order came yesterday on foot of an application from Wilson's Hospital School this week.

Judge Brian Cregan said the former teacher's behaviour has been "appalling", and said he was issuing the order for imprisonment to protect the school's children.

Mr Burke has already spent more than 700 days in jail for breaching the order which bans him from the grounds of the premises in Multyfarnham.

He has also been hit with more than 200 thousand euro in fines.

He was formally dismissed from the school in May for gross misconduct after a protracted dispute over his conduct towards the then principal following a request to refer to a student by their chosen pronouns.

Burke wasn't present at yesterday's hearing but in a statement did not deny his trespassing, and insisted his ban from the school is unlawful.

Along with the order for his arrest, the Judge ordered the seizure of his car, with a two week stay on that order.
