Farmers Importing Peat For Bedding Due To Bord Na Móna Policy

There's been widespread anger and confusion of late as to why Ireland is importing peat.

New peat guidelines are causing farmers who lay it as bedding during the calving season to import it from Europe.

Westmeath councillor John Dolan is criticising a policy which bans Bord na Móna from selling peat to the agriculture or horticulture sector. 

The subject is going to be raised in the EU by Midlands North-West MEP Maria Walsh.
