Fianna Fail will be sticking with their sitting TDs for the forthcoming general election in the Longford/Westmeath constituency.
This comes as the electoral area is set to be expanded from four seats to five.
Despite the move, the party has gone against a three candidate strategy that may have seen Athlone Councillor Aengus O'Rourke brought on to the national ticket.
However a week ahead of Fianna Fail's selection convention, Mr O'Rourke has withdrawn his nomination.
It will be a third consecutive general election without an Athlone candidate on the Fianna Fail ticket.
