HSE staff say they're delighted the day has arrived.
The first of four mass covid vaccination centres in the midlands are opening this morning.
Two centres - at Athlone IT and the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise - are opening their doors to the public at 9am.
People aged between 65 and 69 are invited to attend, but must first register through the HSE's online portal or helpline, and bring along photo ID and their PPS number.
General Manager for the HSE Midlands, Louth and Meath, Siobhán Murphy, is overseeing all of the vaccination centres in the region.
She says they're hoping to extend the opening hours in the coming weeks:
