The final report on the incident has been published by the Air Accident Investigation Unit.

Five people were uninjured during an emergency landing after the engine of a small plane lost power in the midlands.

The pilot and four skydivers were on-board the aircraft during the incident at Clonbollogue Airfield on October 6th, 2018, according to a report by the Air Accident Investigation Unit.

The report highlights the pilot noticed uncharacteristic vibrations and reduced engine power which prevented the Cessna 182L from climbing.

He broadcast an 'engine failure' over the airwaves, and announced his intention to return to the airfield.

During the descent, the engine failed completely, and the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on Runway 09 (nine), during which the aircraft skidded sideways along the grass runway before coming to a stop.

The report shows no injuries were reported during the investigation, however the engine sustained 'extensive damage,' and parts of the main landing gear were also broken.

It found the probable cause of the engine failure was a result of a fractured crankshaft due to localised heat-induced cracking.
