Paddy Branagan, from Graiguecullen, died in Alabama last May.
Jamie Malone is planning to run the Longford Ultra, which is 63km in distance, in a bid to raise money for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
He's dedicating the challenge to his "Dear Friend," Paddy.
The fundraiser is currently at over €6,900, less than €100 short of its target of €7,000.
